monolux
origins

Having met playing for a folk rock quartet, the need to rock took its toll and Lloyd Grey and Mark Baker decide to start a band. After a few steps forward and countless steps back due to personnel changes, Monolux start in earnest in July 2006.

Before that, Monolux record a three track EP in December 2005.

Following the first gig in August 2006 for Up All Night Promotions at The Miller Of Mansfield (London Bridge), Monolux earn additional bookings in Soho and North London. After four gigs, the band play for Bugbear Promotions at The Dublin Castle and are offered more Camden gigs.

The sound of Monolux has been likened to The Beatles and Radiohead (according to Bugbear Promotions), very flattering. Monolux aren't either artist, but appreciate the association.

That wasn't a bad start.

Mark Baker takes a break from music in summer 2008 and the band continue as a trio until the winter of 2010 when Lucas Moreira joins the band.

personnel

Lloyd Grey (formerly of Speak & Play and The Hank Ripleys) Lead Vox and electric guitar:
South East London native. Self confessed admirer of Aretha Franklin, Bobby Womack, Dusty Springfield and Elvis Costello. Lloyd thinks that vocals should be more than an afterthought. He doesn't do 'flash'...

Robin Lawrence (formerly of Shadowbox) Bass:
Robin is a rare Londoner… he is the embodiment of positivity. An optimist with a sense of London irony. He weaves in and out of the guitars, anchored firmly to Wrigley's rhythmic foundation, tailoring each song with his huge melodic bass playing, providing the foundation upon which the Monolux sound is built. Not your conventional bassist...

Martin 'Boss' Wrigley (formerly of Jacknife Kid and Real Time Thrill) Drums:
Martin is a veteran of the South East London music scene. He provides the heartbeat to Monolux. He's a machine!!! He's also rather handy, if you know what I mean?

Lucas Moreira (veteran of many bands and native of Brazil) electric guitar:
Lucas has adopted South London (or has South London adopted Lucas?). His role is to provide colour to the music. He's Brazilian so stereotyping dictates that it should come easily to him!
